As a white transgender male, I will never understand what it is like to be a person of color. I can gain perspective and exposure but I will never understand. We as white people need to stop like we understand everything. We also have to acknowledge we are not the only race on this planet. There really is no time to put your pride first, we all need to be united. Let me explain!
I see and hear a lot of white people preach that they stand in solidarity with POC and the LGBTQ. I also hear them spread garbage about how they know what it is like to be oppressed. At the same time, white people are attacking POC. When POC or even the LGBTQ try to educate these people, they assert their privilege and act like they know what it is like. White people have not been oppressed. We were never slaves, we were never beaten by the police, and we were never given harsh sentences when committing a crime. POC on the other hand has been through this and is still experiencing this in real-time.
Again, if you have not noticed we have a shitshow that is occurring around us, it is time to stop playing the privilege card. We need to stand in solidarity with POC. We need to be humbled. We need to take a backseat and fight alongside our brothers and sisters. I know most of my comrades do not believe in God, but I believe in the principle that every single one of you is my neighbor. It is my job as your neighbor to help and assist you. When I look at a person I always look at who they are on the inside. I ignore the stereotypes and stigmas.
Most people are capable of change, but what is preventing people from getting that change is the information that is being fed to them. Do you know where I get my knowledge? I get it from talking to people on the streets. In my field of mental health, I am also exposed to various cultures and I always ask questions. I do want to make clear though I am not saying every white person is like this! There are genuine white people who are fighting alongside POC and get educated the same way I do, by talking to POC.
When white people assert their privilege it shows that they are not with POC. They are exposing their racism. I do see the disadvantages that POC experience particularly in the field of mental health. I have personally seen POC get passed over for promotions, targeted, and the quality of care that they receive. You wonder why people do not go to counseling. Seeing that occurring contributes to the stigma of mental health and it must end. Seeing POC and LGBTQ individuals not included in stats also shows that they do not matter.
At this point, you may be asking what the point am I trying to make? The point I am trying to make is that there are too many white people engaging in this mainstream idea that we need to be in solidarity with POC, but only if it falls in line with the narrative that they are presenting. White people need to take a look in the mirror and say to themselves that they are not the priority race that is in this country. They also need to acknowledge that they will never understand, which is essentially the first step of standing alongside anyone for that matter.
So as I always say, if you are an ally actually stand with POC. Help them become an equal part of society. Not just by your words but by your actions. Putting BLM in your bio and attacking POC because they do not agree with your narrative is not an ally. Any time I hear people try to stand for the trans community and I encounter someone who is advocating for the narrative that is being presented about us, I always ask them but do you really know what it is like to be us? I usually get the response, “I understand.” Or even if I try to correct someone, even in good faith, I get attacked.
Anyone who supported Biden or Trump is not my ally, they are my enemy. I do not give a shit if people try to say that they had no choice you still support the same evil. Biden is not making things better for POC, he is making things worse. Anyone that says he is, should not be taken seriously. Please educate yourselves stop assuming!
